Catching Cod? of Ocean reef

Hey guys

When I don't have the time to hit the beach hard, I generally shoot off to Ocean reef and lash the water. Lately I've caught about 8 "cod?" and have been trying to ID them to no avail. ANy suggections would be great.

Looking at the pictures they look like a cross between a chinaman and esturay cod, probably between 25 and 35 cms. Unfortunately I didn't keep and pics, but it has to be one of the more common fish out there, for me to catch one. So what Cod / fish frequents shallow reefs in Ocean reef.

thanx

Try the Fish ID guide

I often use the "Fish Identification Guide" in the menu on the left of the fishwrecked page - you may find it in there.  Always hard without a photo...

Apologies if you've already been there.

Thanx guys

went through the guide, ended up with that "combo" didn't look like a wrasse, it had a mouth like a bus, (looking like an ugly bulldog with gills). Next time I'll keep one, photograph it and eat it. If it tastes like Poo then Beerclock is the winner.

Wirrah. And they don't taste like poo, just very mild. Not much flavour but chewy like a cray. Fillet then slice fillets thinly across the grain and flash fry in ghee, garlic and lemon or whatever tickles your fancy. If you dig Reddies you'll dig Wirrah.

Slippery, slimy buggers to process though.
