Bream fishing
Jas - Expert is at one end of the spectrum, and I'm at the other LOL. Since bream are predatorial fish you'd need to look for any good structure. This structure can take an absolute multitude of forms - marina jetties, any other pylons, any semi/submerged structure (like logs etc), bridge pylons, overhanging trees/branches along the river bank, clay/shell beds and so on.
The other guys would be better at advising where on the Swan/canning is best right now (up/down stream) etc.

As Colin said, structures are a major factor when finding Bream
Other important things you must consider is the freshness of your bait, the presentation of your bait, the rigs you are using. My personal preference if bait fishing for bream is to use peeled prawns, with either no lead, or a small free runing ball sinker, running down to a suicide hook. Use as light a line as possible for your leader.
As for spots, at this time of the year I would possibly look at casting around the marinas and yachts at the various yacht clubs below the causeway, or near the Canning Bridge, and if you can, throw a line under the Barrack St jetty.

Lures - HBs
Something I'm just getting into (haven't done a lot of river/estuary fishing since I bought the boat). There's a local fishing forum down here where the young (and not so young) guns posted up picks of HB Lures they'd caught bream on - there are dozens and dozens of different ones. So give them a go. Seems too, that the 'jury' is firming up on NOT using clips, but rather a loop not to assist in imparting best action and water column placement for the action.

I used to sneak off Friday afternoons with a couple of workmates and fish from the bank in front of the Seminary at Guildford a couple of hundred metres upriver from the bridge - quite profitable and easy to access from the water.

bream
Find a nice old jetty and be werry werry quiet like when your hunting wabbits and dont wear your fluro shirt they hate fluro shirts .Sit there and admire the view, roll up small pieces of bread and flick them in the water near the pylons dont be in a hurry. Make sure they sink. Let them become confident to take the bait.
There is no prizes for guessing what is in the next piece of bread .You guessed, a hook. I did say there was no prize dident I. 3 kg line ,unweighted hook .you will be supprised with what you come up with.
I have caught some verry nice black bream in this way.Small pieces of prawn may be used in the same way.
When the toadies turn up find another nice old jetty to sit on.

Bream Fishing.
If your going Breaming mate, give Freshwater Bay a crack mate. Alot of Bream have been coming from the Yacht Clubs around there.
Small Hardbodies such as Vibes or Ecogear SX40's have been the kill for me in the past. But as you go from spot to spot around "Freshies" always have a metal slice in tow because you'll more then likely pick up a few Tailor or Herring.
When you do fish the Yacht Clubs and get smoked by something you call "big Bream (could be)" but its going to be more likely a Juvinile Samsonfish.
Fishing the flats through Freshwater Bay and Mosman is always worth a try too. Just cast along the flats for flatfish or Bream.
