ok just want some input to peoples fav knots to tie braid to a swivel , lure etc, both ways too, either straight braid line(single) or via a double, whats the preference to obtain the highest knot strength possible?

Braid always tie a 70 twist bimini double to the swivel for bottom bouncing or leader for lure chucking. This works for me.

A uni knot

I find a uni knot is simple and strong. Had no problems yet.

cats paw

I do it to a cats paw and still have a large 80lb rig after the swivel approx 1.2-1.5m (still need a bit of rub protection on the reef).

just getting some idea's on how people do braid, i pre make my rigs and at times from the swivel to the sinker is up to 2m long, so its more that fact of joining the main braid line to the swivel on the rig

For bottom bouncing or drift

Mon, 2008-02-11 18:33

For bottom bouncing or drift baiting I use a 6 turn uni and simply loop the swivel on.  So far this very same knot has lasted me a season and a half.  The braid loop at the swivel was looking worn and it did pop when I got snagged on Sat, it was close that was 30kg braid vs 100lb leader, but I knew the loop would go.

Matt I make my own rigs as well and from swivel to sinker they are also about 2meters.

SGL (as it was first know)/braid has changed alot since it's first appearance 20 plus years ago where most of the common knots would not hold and just slip off.  I remember the early days when all the braid knots had to be super glued.

Damn, now I am feeling old!

Knots

50 turn bimini to a GT knot then a couple of m of Fluro or good quality leader to a crane swivel and split ring , use good split ring pliers and you can change rigs as fast as using snap swivels and splits rings MUCH more reliable , JMHO

I use a bimini double approx 70cm and tie that to a ball bearing swivel via a uni knot.....never had an issue. I tie my rig to that swivel and use short leader for bottom fishing as i like to stay low to the structure and have never had a braid bust off on structure!
