braid knot problems???help
Submitted by drew_ward on Sat, 2010-03-27 14:26
On my 2-4 kilo spin soft plastic rod ive spooled it up with 6lb braid.i've spooled it up tight and when using soft plastics i attach a 9lb leader on with a double uni knot.i usually use a 1/4 ounce jig head and i find after 15 or so casts i get these double loop knots somewhere along my braid.some i can pull 1 loop and undo the knot but some become to bad to undo.its so frustrating.im assuming that because its such a small weight theres not enough tension on the line when winding it in...just wondering if any1 has any tips to solve this problem???thanks

I think you probably have
I think you probably have some twists in the line as well. You might have to run it all out and respool it, but through a rag or your fingers.

dont ya love wind knots ..
dont ya love wind knots .. ive only had the problem with fused lines really .. when i swaped over to the true braids this problem was all but gone . the only way to fully stop it is to retrieve the line under more tention, so through ya fingers .. or catch more fish :)

Bit hard...
...when using soft plastics, which are normally worked with a series of pauses/twitches/jerks. I do get a bit of twist on my little 2 kg outfit, and I use lighter weights, 1/6oz down to 1/12 oz, but I'm not casting great distances either.
I use baitcast reels (abu, calcutta) and Power Pro braid for soft placcies 1/4 oz or heavier, as there is virtually no twist with these type of reels.

Do you close your bail arm
Do you close your bail arm manually? i found that this helps.
as soon as the bait/lure hits the water grab your line to keep it tight and close the bail arm with your hand. not by winding the handle.

Went back to light mono
I know that is defeatism but I got so so frustrated with wind knots in light brain that I reverted to premium untra light mono - not a single problem since and in my view my casting distance and accuracy has improved - still love brain in higher strengths for soft placcy fishing barra with heavier lures and found norcast braid to be far superior to others - trouble is you can only get it from Darwin.
