Boat rod advice
Submitted by joycey on Sun, 2012-08-05 21:55
Hi guys, bit of advice please.
Recently bought a boat and will be doing fishing around metro area out to Rotto.
Looking to buy a general boat rod to get me going that would suit a bit of everything (bottom fishing, jigging and trolling)
My main questions are :
1. PE 1-3 or 3-5 ?
2. Overhead or spin? ( I already have a 4500 and 5000 spin reel )
So far liked the look of the Fishing WA rods.
Cheers,
Joycey.

Boat rod options
Gday Joycey,
I would stick to spin for a couple of reasons. You already have spinning reels that you can use, and it also opens up a few more options rather than just having a bottom bash combo. At 6' to 6'6, you can use the combo for plastic and lure fishing, yet still have enough grunt to land demersals and pelagics. If you have 4500 and 5000 size reels, you would be able to match them to a 6-8 kg rod, and then you can have a lighter option, 4-6kg and a heavier rod 10-15kg, all using the same reels. Depending on your budget, there are a few shimano options around the 120-150 option. We also have a few Anglermate rods that would suit your reels. They are a great new rod, with a bunch of sizes, and well priced for the quality, would thoroughly recommend having a look at those. What was your budget?
cheers

our thoughts
Hi Joycey,
The Fishing WA Extreme rod would be perfect and overhead combos are better as an allrounder for what your wanting.
The PE 3-5 overhead rod would be more suitable when jigging heavier jigs, using heavier sinkers and more stopping power on bigger fish. Trolling wise the extra power in this blank helps when running deep diver minnows and a good outfit to use up north or down South on holiday trips away.
