Boat motor servicing

Hi all. I've  been quoted just over $800 for an annual service on my 2006 Suzuki 4 stroke. Is this a reasonable price to pay? Or should I be shopping around?

Cheers Andy

That's about what I payed for

Thu, 2011-11-10 18:11

That's about what I payed for my 2nd last service on my 90hp, but a few phonecalls to other places might be a good idea to see if anyone is a bit more competitive. I just had my last service done buy Cameron at Waterline in Joondalup and it was quite a bit less than $800.

About average

Thu, 2011-11-10 18:13

Depends what they do in the annual service. My 150 I was given an estimate of $700 for a service. But then again, mine is a 2 stroke and there is  more to do on a 4 stroke.

Thank you Sea-Kem, I am still having problems with the engine misfiring, so when the boat is complete, I'll give him a call.

Service

Sat, 2011-11-12 18:11

Just curious, is this cost just for servicing the motor, or is it the entire boat? As for two stroke against a four stroke, that would be just the extra draining the crankcase oil. Are you also paying traveling costs?

I have my boat to service, but will do it after I service the car(s). $180 in consumables sounds about right.

I have a 250 verado and that was 700

dollars for the 100 hr service.  Mobile mechanic Jason out of wangara.  Dearest part is the oil it takes and time to take leg of to drain it..  Did a great job though and he comes to you which has to be worrth paying a little extra for....

Daivd, I've used brett many

Mon, 2011-11-14 10:14

Daivd,

I've used brett many times (Actually due for a service now!)

Put it this way, i'd Never pay $800 for a services.

Admittedly I've got twin engines so services 2 motors side by side has its advantages for the mechainc.

Brett looks after me, and is a top bloke / mechanic.

Pretty good when you can just leave the boat on the lawn, keys somewhere where he can find them and he pops round and services them whilst your at work!
