A conveyancer is someone who transfers the ownership of property, not really a "lawyer" as such.
Mine is SOR which is probably not much help Colin.

I am after information from legal people on whether I require
Letters of Administration to sort out my late wife's estate and from conveyancers on the transfer of property following someone's death.

Sounds like a job for a Lawyer.......
There are some times in life when a Lawyer is actually usefull. Perhaps this is one of them Colin. Let them worry about things and get everything sorted without any dramas. Good luck mate.

Is there a will in place Col?
The property (if jointly named) will be transfered into your name, but (not having done this) you'll probably need to fill out a truckload of paper-work so I'd consult a conveyancer about what to do. If it is setout in a will hiow she wants to divide her estate, then this will probably alleviate a lot of issues.
If you are the executour of the will, then you may (or may not) need legal guidance depending on the complexity of the will etc. The cost of a lawyer will be borne from your late wifes estate. Unless she has a lot of stuff, then a lawyer may be superfluous and an added cost you dont need.

Thanks everyone
Unfortunately my wife died intestate Huggy, so we have to sort out whether we need to get Letters of Administartion or may be able to get by with just using Stat Decs.
You are right with the property Huggy. As it is Joint Tenancy, it does switch over to me.
Hocko, Thanks for that info. I am going to go through the forms I have received from Landcorp this weekend and see how complex they are. If I don't think I can deal with it I will come back to you to see if your mum can help.

Colin, I would encourage you
Colin, I would encourage you to get some advice on this. Legal help will cost you a few (or maybe more than a few) bucks, but if not done properly then seemingly trivial things can tie up estates etc for a long time.
All the best

I have a legal avenue that I am looking into that won't break the bank.
