go too far inland, so I would doubt that it would hold trout. You need to head to somewhere like Pemberton - which is not that far away.(Colin 1 - Co-founding member of the prestigious Colin Club)
Thought as much as it never rates a mention for fishing so will just visit the wineries & head for Pemberton to wave the wand. Just storing info for the big move end of March.
Hey rainbow there are some good trout in the collie river which would be alot colser than going to pemberton all the time but pemberton is still by far the most productive place...
was down on the collie river at the rapids the other day flicking out some sp's when a nice 40 or so cm rainow emerged from the shadows saw me and then shot back out into the shaddows.
Sorry I have not got back to you as we were travelling over from Vic in march & its taken a lot of time to get the house organised & self suff. garden producing well with everything being sand here. Now I know why West Australians are "sand gropers" It beats bloody scoria & mud between your toes any day though!!
However weve met a lot of great people here ( more lay back than Victorians) & I even joined the local band for a great gig New Y Eve at the local country club.
Got to the Balingup medieval festival via Nannup so can see what you mean about the Blackwood, but as nobody ever mentions it here I never thought of fishing it this end. Yeah missing the freshwater fly fishing so will give it a go soon.
There are quite a lot of reddies in the Capel & good bream near the estuary. Jo caught a 35cm bream on bread & cheese there last May .I caught a few mullet on fly tackle using very small hook & bits of Gulp artificial worms. Still very heavy though compared to feathers so you dont get a good cast.
What area are you snoring in?

Im out at dardanup which is like 15 mins from capel. So did you get any trout following the blackwood?
I went to the medieval festival this year but didnt go in, we just walked to the edge and then went down to the balingup brook and blackwood rivers fishing.
Went to the collie river at wellington dam today got one small rainbow trout hooked multiple others and had more than one strike from some decent sized fish. No redfin coz i was mainly fishing the rapids. So when did you get to WA rainbow?
Yeah, just checked where it is & its near a nursery where I bought a trailer full of potting mix. Had to have the trailer weighed too later on for WA reg. & that was at Picton thru Boyanup.
Havent fished for trout in WA yet,but looking forward to it. How much is the fishing permit?
Maybe we can get together for a trout hunt. sorry have only one rod after trapping graphite rod in door ( twice now) The car door only took off about 6 ins in Vic., but the house door in Capel, well we wont go there!!
We got here in April just in time for the Capelfest.
Wondered why the capel river is a milky blue colour upstream & found out today why. The local cheese factory allegedly (accidently) releases water from its over flowing fat settling ponds once a week at 1 am sundays. What a stink!! Now I am really f-ing pissed off, mate.
I`ll dob them in even if every pr--k & his mother works there!
Umm i think the freshwater fishing licence is $20 or something and it is actually put back into the stocking of trout into rivers and dams so youre not paying for nothing. You can get the licence from any post office. I dont need a licence because if youre under 16 you dont need one.
You write so well in all your forums I thought you were much older! I know you will be a writer for a newspaper one day. You have that great enthusiasm about your sport that is so lacking in most of our youngsters these days! Most spend their time playing silly computer games or drinking, smoking or sniffing the wrong stuff! You are in the real world & loving it.
Good onya!!
i have no intentions of sniffing anything other than cooked marron and trout this weekend because its the opening of the season and my dads taken the day off of work on friday to go down to pemberton (big brook dam) and snare for some marron for a couple of days before heading down to Kalgan river near albany for a couple of days... Some good bream and mullaway down there.
& hope you land a real whopper. must try BB dam. its only been open a while I am told. Fridays my b. day & their having a BBcue in my honour. Great town, great people in WA
if ever your over in the east,so many lakes n rivers to choose from but my favourite is just a few hours from Sydney, halfway between Crookwell and Goulburn

Hi Rainbow. Margaret River is more like a creek and it doesn't
go too far inland, so I would doubt that it would hold trout. You need to head to somewhere like Pemberton - which is not that far away.(Colin 1 - Co-founding member of the prestigious Colin Club)
