albany bream (thanks Colin)

finally i got out for a fish today.
being new to albany i was grateful for colin (dreamweaver) to show me around.
we put the boat in at around 9am, then out again around 9.02am to empty the water from the hull and put the bungs in that i had previously forgot :-)
colin was catching fish from the start and had around 10 good sized bream to his name before i had any :-(
after colin kindly re rigged me with flourocarbon leader i started to catch a few and had a great mornings fishing.
Final count was well in excess of 40 bream (mostly colins)

Thank you colin for putting up with me and getting me into some fish,I'm looking forward to next time
cheers
Dave

Bream Abundance - Cheers Dave

Sun, 2009-03-22 17:23

Dave and I have 'known' each other, forum wise for a long time, originally on the FWA forum, and therefore, inevitably on Fishwrecked. Amongst our many contacts, Dave informed me that he was moving down to Albany. So naturally, having enjoyed every contact with Dave immensely, I was dead keen to finally catch up and person and do what two keen fishos do - HOOK UP FOR A FISH!

Despite my most earnest efforts, nature, driving habits and work conspired against this morning. But I only just made that after a late evening work call out and a much later (early this morning) fish.

Dispelling  the late finish (around 01:00am) I dragged my sleep deprived body out of bed at 06:45am this morning and, after some boddy dragging organisation, finally made to Dave's place just after 08:00am.

Handshakes, car loaded with boat in tow, we finally made it to the inlet I had recommended, with the promise of healthy and abundant bream.

As Dave mentioned, the launch was 'interesting', with me being impressed that Dave wanted to retest the trailer retreive, at such an early stage SealedLaughing.

We soon pulled up to a likley looking area, and within minutes (literally), I'd pulled in 10 bream around 23-29cm. Poor Dave, despite using the same rig, hadn't a bite. A quick question to Dave dislosed no FC leader and 3 uni knots later, his rig was back in the water and action across the boat was more balanced.

For me (and no doubt Dave) it showed conclusovely that FC does make a HUGE difference in the pursuit of whiley bream.

A light offshore breeze didn't interupt the glassy calm conditions, and every overhanging branch around the inlet perimiter promised a predatory bream.

Dave's excellent and vigilent sounder assessment disclosed substantial drop offs and I suggested we targetted these in the pursuit of out target species.

This certainly paid off, with dividents appently.

Virtually every cast had a voracious bream smash the end of our lines. I stopped counting at 20, convinced that Dave had well recovered from his earlier slow start. I would not at all be suprised if our total tally exceeded 50 bream between us.

Was it a great day? Absolutely! But only because I finally had the chance to share a prolific bream session with a truly nice guy! Cheers Dave! An absolute pleasure this morning - spending time on 'the hornet' was very much appreciated mate!

Good to see you back on the water Colin after such a traumatic week or so. There is lots of fun with the smaller species with the right tackle. Sure is a lot less travel to get them too. The weather looks great.

Cheers, Vince

Cheers Vince - true mate, on all counts!

Sandra and I are hoping for a VERY boring week next week. LOL!

Yeah, despite being oncall,  it was great to get out with Dave this morning. I can count on Telstra's efficient network - COUGH COUGH (and some luck ) for that!

Nice Report...

Sun, 2009-03-22 19:22

...and good photos, fellas! Were the fish caught on bait or lures? I use FC for virtually all my fishing so I don't really know if it's any better than ordinary mono (nothing to compare it to!) but I DO know that it's very tough abrasion wise and has saved me heaps of bustoffs!

Oh, and the bungs...coming up on fifteen years of boat ownership and I've still yet to forget, but I'm sure the day is coming!

nice report guys. Looks like you did have great weather this morning. That house on the hill fronting the estuary has to be one of the best properties in WA. Great view and great fishing.

Cheers Guys!

Cheers Guys - great fun and company - thanks again Dave.

John - As to FC, Dave and I were talking about that. Down in Albany, as far as bottom bouncing goes, we've found it doesn't make any difference as we've found no discernable difference. But, as a Dave would attest, it made the difference between nothing and constant strikes ysterday, as far as the bream went yesterday.I had a stack of SPs and a few HBs with me, but we just used good old river prawns fed onto a 1/32 jig head.

Russ LMAO!

Yeah Scott - lovely spot for a house for sure.

Good luck when you come down NA!

Good onya Colin for passing on your local experience. Though you are looking pretty serious in some of those pics. I can see why some Albany jaibirds are scared of you.

Great pics and yarn too Davey.

Don't know if I'm comfortable with bream master #1 - yeah - those mug shots do look too serious LOL.

Ads - unfortunately not - though some big ones have been pulled from there - still, tons of fun!
