What's wrong with my fishing? Or Super Moon?

So armed with some mulies, squid jigs, and other gear.   I had the idea to target snapper in the Cockburn Sound.  After reading, it looks likethe following tips should be followed; Snelled hooks,  burley up, go at night and wait for change of light.  So launched at Woodies at 4am, and headed towards the D9.  I sounded it out and think I saw fish arches on the sounder (no good at reading sounder), but I was definately anchored up-current on the structure.

I burleyed up, and kept trying until 11.30am for nothing but a baby sambo (cute little thing!).  This meant I was there for 6+ hours and sat through moon set / sunrise / tide change - all for nothing :(

Another 4 hours was spent running around the sound trying for squid / herring / skippy as I was getting desperate - managed one little squid and a herring.

So, what am I doing wrong?  Or should I just blame the Super Moon?

The Moon

I dont know why but whenever there is a full moon,I catch some fish up to when it gets dark but as soon as the sun goes down its shut up shop time , no bites no fish and just a waste of time.

Just from experience over the last few years, I paid a great deal attention to not just moon phases but other night sky activity. Whenever there has been a major event eg. eclipse, super moon, closer than normal planet - the fishing seems to go down the bog.

Moon

Mon, 2013-06-24 20:39

I'm thinking the moon mate, several occasions now  I  have fished the river breaming and had a poor session, only later to check and find out it was a full moon, others swear by it!

Sunday morning swell was up,plenty chop around and a morning tide I thought surely its tailor time!!!so off I went to the beach  armed with an arsnell of lures,I  tried slices, popers, plugs and from about 7:30 -10:00 had no luck, the baitos looked to be doing it tough too,it took till after ten to pick up a tailor and it was on the humble old gold twisty.that was my first ever tailor and it was on a lure so after a good few atempts thats the monkey off my back and i was amped but have to say with what I thought were near perfect conditions for the tailor there should of been more action and i spoke to a few different fishos around and they were all saying it was very poor too, so  I think the moon is to blame!!

Moon

Same for us at Wilbinga last Saturday morning - only 2 fish taken on baits at the Nursery and none at the Shacks, it seems to be consistent.

Also got told Northerly winds don't help for chasing Tailor - so maybe the two combined caused no fish

Some of my best tailor

Tue, 2013-06-25 14:34

Some of my best tailor sessions have been on a full moon but this so called super moon is always a complete bust for me. Wish I'd looked at my charts & seen it, I wouldn't of bothered going out. I don't think the wind make any difference at all so long as there is enough to put a bit of chop on the water. My favourite wind for tailor is a 10-20knt NE.

I am a non believer in solunar calenders

But for years when my father lived in kalbarri used to go up for Easter. And since Easter falls on a full moon fishing has sucked well below barri standards I am used to on other times. 4 days peppering the place with lures, bait and whatever else I could think off for very little return over 4 yrs.

Do the same other times and bound to have a ball with C&R tailor and other fish.

Maybe merit in it, but if I looked at all the variables I would have no time to fish, so I just ignore and go anyway.

Don't blame the moon or the north wind, I've done good on both and bombed out on other times as well. Go figure
