Anyone's kids on here collect AFL players cards? I have been to a quiz night tonight and come home with a couple of packs. Can rattle off the names if anyone is chasing some in particular.
I had about 25 of the old Scanlans VFL cards, plus 3 stickers from the sixties & early seventies era that I kept from when I was a kid up until a couple of years ago.
Ended up selling them on ebay for about $200 all up. Some fella snapped them up within an hour or so after i advertised them, so they do appreciate in value over time
Do you think WC might give Gardner another run in the ruck if Minson doesnt come through?
Would it be worth taking a punt on Daniel Chic to also bolster the now fearsome midfield they have.
Frost and Randy...
I thought you guys might have had a wager by now?
We're all waiting for some haggets ( thats balls ) to be put on the line, from an outsider looking in I'd be quite concerned Frosty I think the Eagles are fucked next yr...
Well that is unless the two past champions mentioned can get back to a bit of form, does one have to still have both nostrels to play afl of a single strel would be acceptable?
If either of our teams finish lower on the ladder or exits finals first then the loser has to change their avatar and signature to the winner's choice for 6 weeks.
I'm starting to become a little concerned what is going on i must admit....WTF!!
I dont really rate Lewis too highly but i didn't see this coming at all...
Especially with the other names being thrown around, Hartung, Whitecross, O'rourke...
Watch this space i guess and i suppose you have to have faith in those that have made the club the GREATEST of all time and now with the biggest membership in the comp...
I sure Fifi the moggy and Brutus the golden retriever get down to see their beloved Hawks every week, unless they are playing in Tasmania where the locals can buy yet another type of membership that only just qualifies toward the 'membership' tally
By the way Frost and Randall i said Haggets....Balls..... Not front bums.....

Randall you? "Randall says hmmmm ok only if Frosty is" - Bravo Randall, and good luck men
I've already got an annual 3L of spirits and a carton on the Eagles.
I've looked through the whole thread Timboon, but I can't find that screenshot of your betting slip where you dropped $50 on the Horforn for the flag. Must be cold down your way as your haggets seem to have receeded since the 'greatest team of all time' went out in straight sets
Mitchell has one more yr left and they move him on to free up sc space - they gain Tom Mitchell 10 yrs younger and clearly an already high quality mid
Lewis, If you dont get rid of guys with currency then you have fuck all to use in a trade period when you continually play high finals...
They'll do ok out of the Lewis deal and again it frees up currency. As stated above I dont really rate Lewis as highly as a Hodge/Burgoyne/Mitchell.
Hill is a great player and better than Stephen IMO, sad to see him go but pick 23 pretty handy for Hawks.
Hartung/Whitecross - neither has happened yet but realistically neither were/are in the best 22. Potentially yes but neither have been playing week in week out because of the way they play. I dont see it a good thing if they loose Hartung ( with Hills outside run gone ) and I think Whitecross is a gun if he can get a decent run at it so i'd prefer them both to stay.
Now to who they get - Vickory will be a 40 goal Fwd/Ruck standing at near on 200cm and able to take a good grab. Only 26 so plenty of years left in him and hopefully they can de-Richmondize him ASAP
Omeara - " a broken down hack " we will see.... I think the medical team at Hawks would have a tad more knowledge on this subject than you and I but by all reports he is a once in a generation Mid if/when fit. To say I am confident would be a lie as i'd hate the Hawks to throw too many eggs in one basket ( ala Sydney Swans ) I hope they try to encourage players to Hawthorn that want success not $$... I think they paid too much for Frawley by the way i think he was 700k, drop him back to about 5-600 would be plenty...
Nah. Just the two clubs have been a bit quiet at the trade table towards the end of the week and its been the weekend. Expect me to ramp back up when we secure another premiership player in hamling, and a future premiership player in kerstan
Bulldogs have agreed to hamling's request for a trade to Freo. One step closer. Now to work out the detail.
GWS need to have a good fucking look at themselves and how it affects their player welfare. Clubs like Hawthorn and the Bulldogs seem to rank their players' welfare much higher than GWS.
Fremantle has finalised a trade with the Western Bulldogs that will see the club receive 2016 premiership player Joel Hamling plus picks 40 (2nd round) and 63 (4th round) in the NAB AFL National Draft in exchange for Freo’s picks 35 (2nd round), 43 (3rd round) and 61 (4th round).
Yeah beaut , not used to this business Freo actually doing alright on the trades , so Hamling in the bag for pick 35 still pick # 7 . 40 and 63 left .. so whats it going to take to get Kersten as well .
So with Hamling in will Silvagni be content playing second fiddle or would he be better off getting a regular gig at the pies .
I see the Hawks gave Lewis away for a pack of salt and vinegar chips to the demons .
West Coast look set to pick up Vardy for a 4th round pick. I think that’s a better option that getting a pure ruckman as once NicNat is back we can play him as a tall forward marking option for the long ball in (such is West Coast’s want when under pressure) which we currently don’t have and give Darling more flexibility to play up the ground where he is less likely to poop his pants.
A lot of those have been freak injuries and we have put him through an extensive medical so can only put faith in the club medicos I suppose. Here's hoping he does a Menzal rather than a Moribito.
GC playing hardball re Omeara good to see lol .. it’s getting messy I imagine they’ll get their man but at what cost to the club and then there’s that little issue of him possibly breaking down again
So they bloody well should. As much as I hate the Bombers (more than Freo) I'd be delighted to see them swoop in and seize O'Meara leaving the once dominant Hawthorn midfield in tatters
You have heard of a bloke called Tom Mitchell havent you?
Ty Vickory also will be a very handy pick up, the days of a player only playing one role are deminishing...
Midfield in tatters?
We are not talking abouut the Eagles here, Most of the mid sized players roll through the midfield at Hawthorn... I could name them but its a long list and anyway you know who they are...
Hopefully Roughstuff is on the mend and features heavily in 2017!!
Frost you havent upped the betting stakes with Randy
Pick 63 for kerstan. Geelong wanted pick 40, so a win there for Freo.
Been a good trade period for the Dockers. Setting up a young team to take us forward for the next ten years and hopefully have another real crack at premierships from 2018 onwards.
The Fremantle Dockers couldn’t have done any better from the 2016 AFL Trade Period, according to list analyst and former AFL coach Terry Wallace.
Wallace was glowing in his review of Freo’s trade performance on the morning of the final day of NAB AFL Trade Radio.
“They have done the absolute best they possibly could with that was available to them,” said Wallace in his review.
In terms of playing stocks, the Fremantle Dockers have seen the departure of 27-year-old free agent Chris Mayne to Collingwood while adding four young Western Australians in key positions via Cam McCarthy, 21, Bradley Hill, 23, Joel Hamling, 23, and Shane Kersten, 23.
Additionally, Fremantle have improved their position in the upcoming NAB AFL Draft after a last minute trade deal with the Gold Coast Suns, receiving pick 35 (2nd round) and a future fourth round pick, in exchange a future second round draft pick.
Starting the Trade Period with picks 3, 39, 57 and 75, Fremantle will now have three selections 40 and under at next month’s National Draft via picks 7, 35, 40 and 71.
Wallace highlighted that maintaining a strong draft position was one of the most impressive aspects of the period for Fremantle.
“I thought the Cam McCarthy deal was brilliant to set the whole (Trade Period) in play. Yes they had to give away pick three but they were able to get back in with pick seven and were only moving back four spots,” Wallace said.
“My read on it that Fremantle were prepared to go from three to seven because they believe they’ll get the same player that they would have taken at three, and they’ll get that same player at seven.”
After a difficult season in 2016, Wallace expects to see Fremantle bounce back with the combined benefits of this year’s trades and with the likes of Nat Fyfle, Harley Bennell, Alex Pearce and Michael Johnson returning from injury.
“To bring in McCarthy, Hill, Hamling, Kersten – and with what’s going to come back (to Freo) from an injury point of view, this is going to be a completely different Fremantle side, and something that Ross Lyon can sell going into a new season and will make them look far and vastly different to what they were at the end of last year.”
Same terry wallace that gave both freo and west coast an "a" grading for this year's trade period. So if you trash his opinion on freo you should trash his opinion of west coast. But you probably think he is right on the money as far as west coast goes.
Not sure where you would fit him in short term. My concern is the game may have quickened too much for johnson and although he reads the play so well, he may be too slow. I suppose there is opportunity there. But collins is certainly one to hold onto and develop for depth. Johnno must only have a year or two left in those very susceptible legs of his.
I think it has been a decent trade period personally. Bit of short term pain for long term gain. Hopefully now the likes of Langers, O'Rourke etc pull their fingers out and improve.
McCarthy will be a good pickup... if they can find another two forwards like Patton and Cameron for him to receive the 'Joe the Goose' as regularly as in 2014
An all australian ruckman, a guy who played in a preliminary final team all year until he was injured, and who "just" gets a game at peel? Apeness has come back from a knee injury (you know about those), and then breaks his collar bone first game back for freo. I would hardly say he barely gets a game at peel. Looking forward to the first time mcgovern tries to back into apeness on the lead.
Kersten came back mid season and was dropped only to come back and be dropped again. VFL player at best
Apeness kicked an average on 1 goal per game during the finals (in the WAFL) for which he returned fully a fit a week prior to the finals. Would have been dropped if he played for $ubi
All Australian ruckman means stuff all to a 3rd string forward.
Im an Eagles supporter and even I think Freo have done pretty good this trade period... Have a look on the AFL app, they are all singing their praises with the trades they completed. In the end next season will tell how they actually went.... I think a fit Fyfe, Sandi and that forgotten bloke who had a year off for a "Calf"... Cough Couch Cocain addiction... Those 3 are going to make Freo a better side than the 3 or 4 they just picked up.. Im putting freo back in my top 8 next year.
Rumour has it Saints and Richmond are building a "War Chest" to land Fyfe as a free agent next year and he was recently caught having coffee with the Saints president... My money is on him being traded next year
As for the Eagles getting an 'A' for their trade efforts I dont agree... Mitchell is a good pick up for pick 88 but bit sceptical whether he will play the whole year... Vardy is injury prone and I bet that they will also pick up Petrie as back up as a delisted free agent which will be a mistake. With any luck we will get a good yound midfielder with pick 12.
Bit of talk about Barlow doing the rounds at present, I really hope he stays, when he's fit, I'd have him in my top 22 easily, his best is still pretty bloody good as we saw in a handful of games after he was dropped last year.

2 broken legs in 2 years. Might wait till mid year and see how the form is going. Plenty of rising superstars had careers cut short by injury.

Losses: Hawthorn lose Mitchell, potentially Lewis today, Hill and maybe Hartung and or Whitecross.
Gains: Another Mitchell, a broken down hack in Omeara, the same could almost be said about Vickery.
Yep, a lot of upside in that. I think Hawthorn are either very smart or they've lost the plot. I'm thinking the latter.

Pick 63 for kerstan.
Pick 63 for kerstan. Geelong wanted pick 40, so a win there for Freo.
Been a good trade period for the Dockers. Setting up a young team to take us forward for the next ten years and hopefully have another real crack at premierships from 2018 onwards.

Freo started trade period with pick 3 but without a second round pick.
Freo ended the trade period with pick 7, plus two second round picks (35 and 40), plus hill, hamling, mccarthy and kerstan.

Terry Wallace on Fremantles
Terry Wallace on Fremantles trading...

Same terry wallace that gave
Same terry wallace that gave both freo and west coast an "a" grading for this year's trade period. So if you trash his opinion on freo you should trash his opinion of west coast. But you probably think he is right on the money as far as west coast goes.

I'd be trying to use Collins where they can, he is also the future of the back half.

Not sure where you would fit
Not sure where you would fit him in short term. My concern is the game may have quickened too much for johnson and although he reads the play so well, he may be too slow. I suppose there is opportunity there. But collins is certainly one to hold onto and develop for depth. Johnno must only have a year or two left in those very susceptible legs of his.

Its the best i can remember
Its the best i can remember Freo in a trade period, well lets face it previously they havent really even been involved...
Interesting reading on the Afl website they gave WC and A for picking up Mitchell and Vardy?!?!
Sure Mitch will be awsome for a year but Vardy did fuck all at the cats so what will change?
Mixed emotions about the Hawks this year although i think the 3 in will benefit them more than the 3 out...
I wouldnt mind seeing them snag someone like a Barlow to have as a spare mid....

I think it has been a decent trade period personally. Bit of short term pain for long term gain. Hopefully now the likes of Langers, O'Rourke etc pull their fingers out and improve.

Kersten came back mid season
Kersten came back mid season and was dropped only to come back and be dropped again. VFL player at best
Apeness kicked an average on 1 goal per game during the finals (in the WAFL) for which he returned fully a fit a week prior to the finals. Would have been dropped if he played for $ubi
All Australian ruckman means stuff all to a 3rd string forward.

Opinion
Just my opinions!!

Bit of talk about Barlow doing the rounds at present, I really hope he stays, when he's fit, I'd have him in my top 22 easily, his best is still pretty bloody good as we saw in a handful of games after he was dropped last year.
