November fishing trip ... where to go?

We're planning a fishing trip for November. We were looking at Shark Bay however I've looked at the weather patterns and the wind looks like it picks up then. There will be 7 of us going with 2 boats. A 6.3m and a 4.5m, so it cant be too rough or it's going to make life pretty tough in the 4.5m.

Any thoughts on good spots to go? We've considered Jurien Bay and Coral Bay/Exmouth but not sure if they'll be any better?

west coast november, last

Mon, 2012-09-03 07:31

west coast november, last summer there was buggerall seabreeze compared to normal (Im a windsurfer-we notice these things!) but who knows this year?

Statistically Shark Bay and Coral Bay will be bloody windy. On a given day though anything can happen.

Itd just be pot luck if you need to prebook accomodation but other than the cliff at Steep Point you shouldnt have ANY trouble getting accomodation at the last minute and look at the weather before departure.

 Exmouth for sure can take

Exmouth for sure can take the 4.5 inside the reef for light tackle Spangos or to the bay of rest in the mangroves. Plenty of options up there always somewhere to fish when the wind picks up.

Exmouth

No are no guarantees of low winds anywhere north at that time of year, you just take your chances and hope for the best. I'd be choosing Exmouth as there are more options to get out of the wind if it is blowing.

Good point about the Demersal

Mon, 2012-09-03 15:35

Good point about the Demersal Ban, I wasn't aware of that.  I've done a bit of research and it looks like it's just the West Coast Region, not the Gascoyne Region.  So Jurien Bay would be affected by it but not Shark Bay or Exmouth/Ningaloo, is that right?

I've only lived in WA two

I've only lived in WA two years, and didn't own a boat until January, so it hasn't affected me until now.

Thanks Matt. When Bodie

Mon, 2012-09-03 17:51

Thanks Matt. When Bodie mentioned it I had a hunt arond and had a read up of that. I also had a look at the Gascoyne version and it looks like the ban doesn't apply there.  It doesn't specifically say it doesn't, but there's no mention of it.  Does anyone know specifically if it doesn't apply in the Gascoyne region?

Brock O - best get fishing now or you'll be stuck with that Avatar until Xmas!

look at the map (pg.15) it shows that the zone stretches from East of Augusta (Black Point I think) all the way up the coast to North of Kalbarri (Lat 27S)

Thanks for your help ...

Thanks for your help ... looks like we're heading North of Lat 27S in November then.  Exmouth is looking like the preferred option at this stage and maybe take the smaller boat out for a bit of camping at  Ningaloo station for a few days.  Glad I asked otherwise we might have been chasing Whiting at Jurien Bay for a week

You do look like you've been having a blast up there! I hadn't actualy thought about Karatha, but I guess it's not that much further than Exmouth. What's the wind/sea conditions like around November?
