Makes my blood boil

Was out out wide today and on numerious occasions both my brother and I spotted fish floundering on the surface,we came across three undersized dhuie's and two decent sized sambo's it really gives me the shits that people cannot do the right thing we sent all the above mentioned fish back down with a release weight and all were successful. Some people dont have a clue.

On another point was good to see the fisheries officers making a presence at the Leuwin barracks ramp today they managed to ping two people while we were there taking too many fish under the one licence when will people learn

I agree

With these comments. I was up Jurien Bay last year for a week & many boats arrived for the competition that weekend. On the friday myself & another saw at least 12 fish floundering on the surface, 8 were dhuies, 1 Baldy, 1 black Arse. Some were under size, not all, but as catchalittle says, what is wrong with these people. To make things worse many were in the comp, supposedly responsible fishermen/some possibly members of this site. When I asked a person about it at the ramp he just said up-grading (you cant blame them if they just start & catch a smaller fish then get a bigger one, who wouldnt?)

It is just the attitude that some people have. In relation to another posting about Diver down flags, once again people seeming not to give a toss for any one. They see a boat with the flag up and whether they have the spot marked is not relevant, the fact is, someone is on it. As divers do not tend to dive twice on one spot in the 22/25mtr line they should have fished nearby by not on top of the divers, then gone over and done their thing, not what has been described in the posting by WogBoy or admitted to by the boat owner.  If the divers had just started it is reasonable for them to be down 30/40 mins, if it were me and some boat anchored as described in the posting and started fishing with some berley, I will take a very dim view of it, as it is proven that we have more shark activity than seen in a very long time, I know the area that this occurred and I know that there are several patchhes of ground. No need anchor within 300/500 mtrs in my opinion.

 Well done catchalittle for

Well done catchalittle for getting those fish back down safely  I cant understand people going to the trouble of releasing if they wont do it properly  Given that it is law that we carry a release weight I cant see any excuse for failing to do tnis other than just being careless,  lazy or both

cheers

Recent Charter experience

Sun, 2012-12-30 10:11

Was out on a charter boat from Freo earlier this month a few under size Dhuie's pulled up, the operator did not have a release wieght on board. Lucky we weren't fishing in deep water so most went back OK but a few were left floating. I did ask the skipper if he had a release wieght but just got a blank look and he didn't seem to be to worried. On a side noted this operators equipment suck big time most of their reels only had approx 70 metres of line on the spool.

Heading your way from Darwin shortly. Thought I read somewhere release weights were "compulsory equipment". Kristo's one man army

there should be a chapter or

Sun, 2012-12-30 13:48

there should be a chapter or test on barotrauma when you get your rec skippers ticket.  Just dragging up demersals and leaving there is just wrong. Sure their great to catch and I can't wait to get my first one but the undersize fish you return today could be the family feed you pull in a couple of months.

With people just blatantly keeping undersize fish or not returning safetly and generally raping the stocks it's no wonder fisheries don't blanket ban all fishing for 4-6 months just to build stock again.
