Landbased Shark Fishing
Submitted by metrolandbased on Wed, 2012-12-26 13:03
I'm looking for information on landbased shark fishing. What rigs and what pound wire? Basically I want to know everything to do with the terminal tackle side of it. I have the rods, reels, line etc but I need to know what pound wire and mono top shot (if necessary) What size hooks, What type of hooks, crimps and everything else I will need to make shark rigs. Any information on what I will need to make shark rigs and stuff is appreciated! :)

i aint no expert but as much
i aint no expert but as much wire as you can. 2-3 meters either big single 10/0-12/0 sized hooks circle hooks work better and 300lb wire leader as a minimum. if your running braid top shot your reel with some mono for the stretch and abrasion. i use ball bearing swivels theyre tinny but rated to 150kg and crimp size just buy the ones that suit the thickness of your wire. hope this helps

It all depends on what type
It all depends on what type of sharks you are going for if ur going for black tips, bronzies, small tigers and hammer heads (smaller sharks) i would use 150-200lb black coated wire with 10/0 'J' hooks on a 2 hook rig, for bigger sharks use 400lb+ wire on a 2 hook rig, for wind on leader use 80lb+ tough trace 3m minimum. I usualy make My rigs about 2-3m beacause i normaly fish of jettys but just make your rig to suit the area you are fishing

Cheers Tim! Um I reckon I
Cheers Tim! Um I reckon I will only end up going for small tigers and hammer heads. I don't think I would be able to pull in a 3m+ bronzie or something.

Have a look into
Have a look into slidebaiting as its probable the most reliable way to get sharks consistently when the wind is no good for balooning. Whole mullet are a great bait to start off with and wil usually stop most rays from touching it if it's not cut up, also burley is not needed it only brings in rays when chasing little ones. Spend the time finding a good location to try like along the edges of sand banks or some sort of drop off as they like to cruise along them. I use 49strand stainless wire for everything as I've lost way to many sharks to that 7 strand coated rubish failing on me for various reasons.
always looking for a new challenge!!
