how to get into a narrow car port

As a fisho with a buggered hand and arm , I love fishing but had a major drama getting my boat in and out of the boat port as I have only 120mm clearance on 1 side to fence house and about 100mm on the house side and its on a bit of a slope. I used to always need my best mate to come and get the boat out for me and get the boat back in for me (he told me it was doing his back in) lucky for me he spotted a thing called a boat and trailer mover on gumtree which we went and checked out .Guess what it is perfect pushes my boat up no dramas in to the boat port even over the grass and up u curb.I highly recommend them

C.P it is a bit like one of those tracked things you see the army bomb disposal teams use you can check it out at www.campertrolley.com.au , and to smarty Nathan I will admit I am not the best at backing but then a few mates have tried to get the boat into my boat port and have had to admit it was harder than it looked

Another way to do it, is to

Another way to do it, is to paint lines on the road in front of the driveway.

When the line coming out from under the car lines up with you, you know you're on track.

Only works if the trailer is

Mon, 2013-04-22 16:13

Only works if the trailer is dead straight. If it's not dead straight the lines are completely useless. Practicing reversing into the spot is the best way & regardless of the angle shouldn't really be that difficult. Failing that a pair of side mount cameras wouldn't cost that much to install.

 There are electric models

Mon, 2013-04-22 17:11

There are electric models with solid wheels starting at around $300, there are also ratchet type with twin pnumatic wheels for about the same money,

The best one I saw but cant find the link for is a twin pnumatic wheeled electric model that hooks onto the tow hitch,

I think there are knockoff china models out there as well which are a lot cheaper.

backing

re the comments not only am I disabled but to back the boat in I had to jack knife the trailer onto my lawn then needed to go forward and back about 10 times to straighten up I could have done in about 3 goes but I don't think the people across road would have liked me running over their rose bed . To C.P got mine of gumtree the bloke was asking 1400 but got it 4 1200 a new 1 is expensive but worth it if it saves your back and causes less stress,

towball mounted on the front of a car may look strange but oh so practical.

relax with your new gadget mate and may your boating days never end!

Yep definately the way to go

Yep definately the way to go Barlow. I bolt mine on when beach launching and parking the boat in my ultra tight boat bay. Makes it a piece of piss.

Front Tow Ball

Tue, 2013-04-23 09:11

A tow ball on the front is a mint idea!

Is it illegal, considering all the conjecture about fitting rod holders to a bull bar?? (sorry, I don't mean to be a person that shits on peoples comments. I am genuinely interested because it is a ripper idea)

it!!!!!

handy to have in the middle but not critical.attach it to something sturdy, any welder will do it for you.

thats why we did it too seakem in qld for beach launching. 21 ft poly u boat ,J20 launch vehicle, critical to be able to see what was happening ,rather than relying on someone else.

and the ease of turning the wheel the way you want the bloody trailer to go.....haha
