demersal jigging/plastics set up?

Just wondering what combo's people are using for demersal plastics fishing and jigging?

Im heading out on a charter tomorrow morning from Hillarys and im wondering if I should go grab a few plastics and jigs and take my own rod with me.. But im not sure if I will be a bit under gunned..

The combo I was thinking about taking is a Shimano Jewel 762 snapper 5-8kg rod with Penn spinfisher 460 loaded with 20lb braid..

Your thoughts? Let me know if this is ridiculous...

I don't think you will find the penn up to it and that rod is way too long for jigging.

Give it a shot mate. The slammer will most certainly handle 20lb line and while the rod is a tad long, it makes for a great plastics rod in shallower water. Unfortunately I'd say the charter is going to be going deeper than 40 meters and the weight required to get to that depth will probably be a bit too heavy for that rod.

I thought it might be a little too light a combo.. It's heaviest combo I've got at the moment.. The rest of my gear is used for chasing bream...

I'm in Baldivis Leemo.. Why's that?

I don't really think the AR

I don't really think the AR in the penn will be up to it. For jigging, I usually say you have to buy something good enough to be marked ``made in Japan''. Try looking for something more like 6-6'3" for jigging.

 Salina? Saltist Spin?

Salina? Saltist Spin? Saltist OH? Saragosa? Spheros? Exceller? V series Spinfisher? Stradic?

PLENTY of options cheaper than $500 and not made in japan, that are more than capable of jigging with.

Jig

I posted a question like this last week

http://fishwrecked.com/forum/recommendations-soft-plastic-demersal-rod Might help I agree with leemo plenty of cheaper reels that can handle it especially if your not jigging really heavy. I have put a couple of saltists through hell and with a quick retrieve are a heaps cheaper solution to a saltiga. If you decide you really want to get into it then you can justify spending some big money. I have landed some big fish on my salty fighter and after getting smoked a few too many times I have upgraded to a nice Catalina rod I already have a saltiga 4500 to put on it but I was using a sol 4000 previously and that was holding up ok for a part time jigger I seem to be some sort of sambo magnet these days so the salty fighter might be dedicated to whiting from now on

Shimano Saragosa 14000 on shimano T curve 400g jig stick, 80lb braid and 20kg drag, 10 year warranty can't go wrong. Hasn't failed me so I just bought another one!
