boat fishing out from point billie / lefroy bay

Heading up to lefroy - point billie on the 13th of may in a 5.8m ally boat, it will be my first boat trip to the area and just after a little advise on a general area to start looking for some good bottom bouncing grounds to play with some decent demersals, not after anyones GPS spots, but some general areas to start looking?? Any advice would by much appreciated!!

Cheers, Matt

Last year

in August we did well on demersals (Reds, Rankins, Spangleds etc.) in most depths over 40m out to 130m. Having said that we lost alot of fish to sharks in the 90-110m range.

This year i'll probably spend a bit more time on the lumps in close (15-30m) trying to find a few Coral Trout.

As far as pelagics go we did well on Macks and Tuna from the back of the reef out to 30m, packs of Sails in 40-80m and a couple of Blacks out past 150m.

Great place

Sanctuary

Check for the sanctuary zone thats close to the area as well. Found some nice reds in the 70s. Keep an eye where the old timers are in their tinnies, will give you a bit of an idea of the areas to fish.

Point billie

Mon, 2013-04-29 07:55

Just come from there...point billie is a good ramp to launch...head out about 1.30pm frm the ramp there is a good safe area to cross the reef...not as smelly as the main channel...saw a lot of grey nomads fish just behind the reef in this area...tried it myself but didn't do any good (swelly not smelly)....we didn't do any good fishing...may have been tithe moon ...swam withe the guns a bit again didn't see anything worth the ping....the reef inside actually looks quite bland...anyway we did head through the main channel once and saw mackies but due to the swell we didn't stay for a troll...the station has good pamphlets that you can use to put the sanctuary zones into your gps. If you are staying at point billie camp she's a bit of a Barron one...north lefroy looks awesome if you can get in there good for leaving the boat in on anchor...point billie is reefy on the shore line....my camp site order....nth lefroy...Seth lefroy....point billie anyway enough rambling from me....good luck and enjoy

It'll take too long to trailer down 16kms of trailer braking stuff....better to take heavyanchorextra chain put a good mooring down for the time....wind has been blowing so be careful of that....
