RST is a joke
Anyone who thinks that a RST alone makes them a capable skipper of any vessel is kidding themselves.

Aww that's a bit rough pal.
Aww that's a bit rough pal. The bloke has put up an honest post trying to help out. There might be blokes on here who own boats but are invalids or old and would stil be happy to be taken for a days fishing. Good lateral thinking Nightwolf

No offense
Not having a crack at Nightwolf, having a go at the RST system. I standby my original comments that it is a joke and in no way prepares a person to be a capable skipper or distinguishes between those with some level of boat handiling ability or none at all. What it does do, which is the reason for my reply to this topic, is provide people with the mentality that "I have passed a RST therefore I am a capable skipper, lets go boating". I believe this to be dangerous mentality. Apoligies to nightwolf for implying that you fit into this group of people. However you you did say you recently got your RST.

RST
For those who doubt the effectiveness of the RST only had to have a look around before it came in to being.
Professional fishermen didn't give the nickname WOOD DUCKS to rec fishermen for no reason, So any training and information on how to handle a boat was better than none at all
Good on Nightwolf for putting his hand up as there are plenty of boat owners out there who would welcome someone to drive the boat for them, this includes those who want to hire a boat but can't because of not having a ticket

sorry to say but the RST is
sorry to say but the RST is never going to, and nor was it intended to, stop hoons idiots or dickheads.
only the authorities and/or Darwins Law will do that and hopefully not at our expense.

The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.

Write up your experience!
Nightwolf why not write up a bit on your experience in your account details, both with fishing and boating experience. I looked up your account and you have filled in some (better than others) why not go a bit further there and write up more.
You never know what may come up, but sure as hell the persons involved need to know more about you.

I see your point gunz
Although you seemed to come on a little strong. If everyone knew what they were doing it wouldn't be any fun having a couple of beers at the boat ramp!
